Dreams

Hold fast to dream For if dreams die     -   Simile. This means that if a you don’t fallow your dream you will not achieve it and you will forget about it

Life is a broken-winged bird That cannot fly.       -    Metaphor. Life is not easy, there is going to be hard ships in it but you have to get up from them and rise above everything 

Hold fast to dreams when dreams go     - Metaphor. this means if you let a dream go it means you stopped fallowing it and let it leave you. 

Life is a barren field
Frozen with snow.            -    Metaphor. It means life maybe easy but there will be hard spots in it.  

Dreams

Authors note: Dreams is a poem that was to do with life and the dreams you set in it.

Although same people may make life look easy and smooth. Even though life isn’t not. Same people dream big, some dream small, and same don’t even dream at all. But you have to dream to get over those bumps and cracks that life sets in front of you. Dreams that may or may not happen. I am not talk about the dreams you have in your sleep, but the dreams that you live every day. That is what the author, Langston Hughes wants to get over to the reader. Including  The aspect of life as it lives. I think this poem describes life in a negative and positive aspect.

In “Dreams” the text is using figurative language to describe life with a dramatic and depressing see on life. Like in the saying “Life is a broken-winged bird that cannot fly,” describes the hurt there is in life and the dreams you set in it. It also adds despair in the poem to make it pop out at you.

In addition it adds pains and suffering in to the poem. The author made the poem clear on what his or hers aspect on dreams come out into open sight to describe feelings. But dreams may touch on a lot to some people but little to others. The author hides a lot of feeling in the poem too. Like the saying “Life is a barren field frozen with snow,” can speak for many thing. Be I think the author is trying to say life may be soft and plain but there are going to be spots were you get cold and freeze from what you want to accomplish in the dreams you set.

Even though this figurative language puts tone in this piece, but also makes the reader feel what the writer is trying to get over to the reader. For example, it make you feel sad, but at the same time it want you to push to your limits.  But there was some language that wasn’t as powerful. Like “Hold fast to dreams for if dreams die” and “ hold fast to dreams for if dreams go” may have a impact on some but not to me. But throw out this poem it made me feel different in the mood aspect.

In conclusion, “dreams” made me feel how the poem wanted me to. The feeling of sadness and the harsh of life as we know it feeling in this poem. You may be able to dream and dream with others but only you can make those dreams come true. Every one dreams one way or another. So in that case what is one or a couple of your dreams?  

re do Point of View

Football Champ

Authors note: Football Hero is about a 12 year old that has a talent for football. It is in his amazing mind and he can play like a pro.

How could you get out of the knot Troy is in? Troy the main character is persevering to be like Seth. Troy is the genius in football. He can see the plays of the other team so the Falcons can go right to the ball. But there is a turning point in it and it could end everything Troy and Seth’s careers. And they are out to tell the truth, unlike the reporter that may just end their careers in the NFL. Troy puts a picture in the readers mind as the story keeps going.

Mainly it seems it is told in the point of view of Troy. It is told in many perspectives. Like there are sense it is told by the enemy, Peel the reporter that switched the words of troy to his own to make Troy, his family, and Seth hated by other people. But Troy’s friends have his back the whole way. Troy’s friends are Tate and Nathan are out to prove they aren’t bad but to prove Peel is the bad one in it all. Throughout the book you start to notice that everything you wish for can change in seconds.

Although it is written in the point of view of Troy. So it makes you feel like they didn’t do anything to deserve it. But there was  reason. Seth ended Peels football career in college. So Peel wants to end Seth’s. feelings and actions of everyone is sad, mad, and wanting to redeem themselves. Troy and his friends Tate and Nathan helped Seth. In chapters fifty to fifty – seven are the way they helped Seth clearer his name for using steroids and other preferment’s  enhancing Drugs.  Are when Peel wanted to know how the Falcons where doing so good but they never told him it was because of a football genius. 

In addition, the events would be a lot different if it was written in Peel’s or anyone else that wants to take down Troy and all them. For the scene of them getting the doctor to confess about lying about Seth used steroids. If was told by the doctor he would have been shocked or nervous. He would of thought of Peel as a enemy too, because Peel threatened the doctor. Then the doctor found out that is was to cleaner Seth’s name he got mad and almost got the proof.

Another is if Peel was telling the story. If Peel was everything would get flipped. Peel’s enemy would be Seth. The reason why would be because Seth ended Peels football career in college. So Peel wants to end Seth’s career. But with troy there he can’t complete his task. So Peel starts lying about Troy.

In conclusion it is a great book. This book you will never want to put down because it keeps leading you and keeps you guessing. How could anyone get out of the knot Troy is in? That is the question that got in my head when I was reading this book. Troy put a picture in my head when I was reading it  but will it put one in you?  

Creative Piece - My Favorite Sport

My Favorite Sport

  

Could it be the most brutal sport?  How can we protect the youth from concussions? That is the question that everyone is asking themselves today. It is probably the biggest populated sport Pewaukee guys play today. I’m talking about Football. I find it the most fun and adrenalin pumping sport I have ever played. Just to get the feeling you get from it. The wind going through your helmet as you run down the field well you know you can change the outcome of the game by something you do.  

There are many sports you can play but I find football to be the best. I play baseball, basketball, track, and football. But football brings the man out of  boy. It is a punishing, till you die sport. It teaches you discipline, mental and physical toughness. That’s why I love it so much.

The feeling for power and energy makes you feel like you are unstoppable till you meet your enemy at the line of scrimmage. There are good teams than the team that don't win but works as a team. The team I play on is neither. We only depend on one player. But I don’t like that get to me, to think that I have to do nothing for my team.              

Almost no one tries that’s why we don't win. A team that wins works together, works hard till the end and never depends on one person. You can’t accomplish anything if you don’t try hard or work hard. Do you think all famous people just got that job or do you think they earned it?

There are many thing people try to talk you down and you might fell at first but you get back up and soon enough you stay standing. Will you follow only  you and not others? Or will you be the follower for the rest of your life? Only you can make that decision.

Point of View

My Brother Sam is Dead

                   Authors Note: 

In My Brother Sam is Dead, strongly fight about what is right and wrong. His dad turns to the British side. Then Sam, the oldest brother in the Meeker family decides to turn to the Colonists. But the youngest, Tim Meeker, is pressure to put a view on things himself.

 The point of view is told by Tim meeker. Tim is the youngest son of two in the Meeker family. Tim is pressured to fight against his father but he doesn’t what to fight against Sam. I heard before that would go with this book. That is “The dead will pay for the living”. It seems like Sam’s death was for another man’s doing.  

Tim’s view on stuff makes his  brother sound like the brother everyone wants or has and his dad sounds like he is the meanest father ever. But what if it was told by the British soldier that executed Sam or it was told by Tim’s and Sam’s Dad. Their dad would probably think of Sam as a trader and a coward for fighting beside the colonists. But Tim doesn’t think of anything or anyone being bad or being a betrayer.

If this story was in the point of view was told by a different person in the story it would come out totally different. The scene and thought in everything, the feelings. Everything except the time period. So the next time you ever read, try to think of the story in a different characters point of view.   

Compare and Contrast Re-do

The Patriot

Authors note: I wrote a compare and contrast the two main characters Sam from 

My Brother Sam is Dead and Benjamin for the movie The Patriot.

Even though My Brother Sam is Dead by James Lincoln Collier is about the Revolutionary War, it isn't really like the movie The Patriot. There are some like how the families fought. But it is a book I wouldn’t recommend for a history report.  But it can make you see what is happening right at the moment.

There was one really important man in The patriot and that is Benjamin Martin that is played by Mel Gibson. He is the father widow that was 7 children. He lead the rebels into War. The reason why he was a good leader was because he fought in the French and Indian War.

In addition Benjamin knew what War was like. He knew how it was like to kill a man. The reason why he knew how war was like is because he fought in the French and Indian War. He had the worse memories after him and his soldiers did a gruesome thing.  

On the other hand the book is way different. The oldest brother Sam that wants to fight against the red coats was raised by royalists. He thinks they deserve to be free but his dad thinks it is fine how it is. Sam thinks it is all about killing but thinking and hoping that god is watching over him so he doesn’t get killed himself. His little brother even thinks of fighting too. Then his dad turns and is going to fight on the British side. So Sam’s little brother has to choose to fight with his brother or fight with his dad.

Of course there are comparisons for both Sam and Benjamin are that they want to be heroes again. They both want to be free in America. They both knew how it was like to kill something. But for Sam on only things he has killed was animals and Benjamin killed everything from animals to humans. They both were judged really hard by people.

In the end the book and the movie are both are good. They both can make you see or make you feel like you are there in the spot light. There is a lot that you  could learn from both of these things about how it felt or something you never heard of.    

Compare and contrast

Gym Candy 

Gym Candy by Carl Deuker is about a teen that wants to find his true self. His name is Mick Johnson and he is out to beat his enemy that is keeping him from being a starter on the varsity football team. His enemies’ name is Cam that isn’t a true talent. Unlike Cam, Mick has football in his blood.

              Cam thought he could get away with anything in life because he was the top player on his football team. Cam is a bigger guy, so he can plow through people. Unlike Mick that is just fast. Cam got kick off the team for when Him and another player got caught at a party drinking.

            Mick’s dad was a pro football player till he got fired. That’s why Mick has Football in his blood. Mick was the second string running back but now he is in at first string for now. Mick has a better attitude and a better mind than Cam, till Mick took a wrong turn. Mick made that wrong turn so he could be and stay better than Cam for the years to come till Cam graduates. Mick knew the consequences to what he did if the team finds out.

            They both have same comparisons. Like they both love the sport of football. They are both really good at football. Both of them were coaches pets and fought for number one till one is marked king. But it might end up bad for both of them 

            I can clearly relate to this book. This book I think is more close to realism than some of the other sports books I read. This book made me see the events in the book as they happen. I have been in some of their footsteps. The book I think is trying to say that there will always be a person to beat in life and that it won’t be use to do.

A Piece of My Life

Have you ever had to lie so you didn’t get yelled at? Did you ever get made fun of? I know, I’ve had and done those thing and they aren’t fun.   For Ty Lewis it is life for him every day. The main theme is determination in Football Hero.

Reason one for determination is because The stuff Ty goes through around in school and football. The reason of determination is because Ty doesn’t let people really get to him. Like if someone makes a comment on what he is wearing or what he does he brushes it off and forgets about it. 

Second reason for determination is getting made fun of for the job he has for his uncles cleaning business. But when he started playing football it got a lot worse. People started calling him names like, toilet boy and all the bad things you could think of. Ty’s enemy Calvin West started the name calling when he saw Ty at one of his jobs cleaning the toilets. Ty’s brother, Thane was picking Ty up from practice one day and saw that Calvin was cheep shooting Ty and Thane was sick of it.

So Thane showed Ty same tricks that thane used on players he hated. One day at practice Ty put on those tricks and taught Calvin a lesson no not to mess with him ever again. Ty has determined to show his teammates that he deserved to be there. Ty was there to show them that he is one of them but even better than all of  his teammates.

I can relate to this book because a lot of those things happened to me. Things started happening when I switched schools in 3^rd grade. There were name calling and physical stuff started happening. Then when I started playing football people started saying I wouldn’t get anywhere, that I suck, and all that stuff. But I prove myself more than anyone now.
